Is Ubuntu OS good? Do you need to install any driver after installing it?

Cool_Kiss asked:

I’m planning to install the Ubuntu OS on my laptop(currently has windows Vista), but I don’t know if Ubuntu is good. Do you need to install any drivers for Ubuntu? Can I send stuff to my printer in Ubuntu? Is it compatible with my printer driver?

Ubuntu is a great OS! I run it on my computer in the background with Windows 7 and I love using it for servers and so forth. Wether it will run with your printer I’m not sure I would go to your printers brand of website and find out there if it isn’t listed call or post in there forums.

Ubuntu benefits from an very active bordering on insane community that will do EVERYTHING to push for their distro and presenting their linux as THE LINUX it is an ok little linux and has a nice interface, excellent hard ware detection but MISSES many drivers others have. For that reason we really don’t recommend it for a laptop because YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION PROBABLY WILL NOT work you printer should though. Not only will you have to TRY to install wifi drivers but you will probably wont be able to as wifi drivers in linux means recompiling the kernel they should come with YOUR linux which is not the case for many drivers in Ubuntu.

You are much better with a full fledge linux that comes on a dvd and has all the proprietary drivers and WORK OUT OF THE BOX
